Mount Fuji has 4 trails and all have different features.

 

Below is the summary of basic information on 4 trails.

  1. Yoshida Trail (吉田ルート)

Return Trip: 14 km

Elevation: 1450m

Duration of Climb: 6 hrs 10 min

Duration of Descent :  3 hrs 30 min

If weather is nice, you can see sunset or sunrise.

Very popular trail so you will experience traffic in the parking and on the way to parking.

You might need to go early to avoid the traffic.

There are 2 routes in this trail so that when you climb, you don’t see people going down.

 

 

 

  1. Fujinomiya Trail (富士宮ルート)

Return Trip: 8.5 km

Elevation: 1350 m

Duration of Climb: 5 hrs 30 min

Duration of Descent: 3 hrs 50 min

This is the shortest trail among four trails.

About 25% of people take this trail.

You won’t get lost because there is only one way to climb up and down.

When it gets crowded, however, people give a way so it might make you go slowly.

In addition, some people injure their ankles especially when going down.

Take your time and carefully descend.

  1. Subashiri Trail (須走ルート)

Elevation: 1800 m

Duration of Climb: 6 hrs 50 min

Duration of Descent:  3 hrs 20 min

This is the second shortest trail after Fujinomiya trail.

Only 10% of people use this trail, so if you come to Mt. Fuji during holidays and weekend, you might try this this.

It is less crowded, however, you have to share trail with those come from Yoshida trail after 8th station.

Thus expect crowd.

Also some have followed crowd and went down to wrong trail (Yoshida trail)

so be careful when descending.

 

  1. Gotemba Trail (御殿場ルート)

Return Trip: 17.5 km

Elevation: 2300 m

Duration of Climb: 8 hrs 10 min

Duration of Descent: 4 hrs 20 min

This is the longest trail among four trails.

Only about 5% of people use this trail, so it is recommended to those who want to take time and enjoy quietness.

Because less people use this trail, parking at 5th station won’t be crowded.

 

You need to add extra time if staying on summit or taking extra breaks.
