What is the New Japanese Era Called?

 

Japan uses Japanese calendar and today is the day to announce the name of new Japanese year (Imperial year). This is called Gengo (元号) in Japanese.

 

On May 1st, 2019, a new Japanese year, Imperial year will commerce. It is called Reiwa (令和: れいわ).

 

Although it is announced today, actual change will be effective on May 1st, 2019

 

 

I personally don’t like its sound, but maybe I’ll get used to it!
